    First Hartford Realty Corporation announced plans to develop “The Shoppes at Rio Grande Valley” – a 1.1 million sq. ft. open air regional shopping center in Edinburg, Texas. The development is located on a prime 130-acre site at Hwy 281 and Trenton Rd. The Shoppes at Rio Grande Valley lifestyle center will feature over 80 stores including department stores, specialty stores, restaurants, and entertainment. The power center will be home to 12 national big box retailers and will be connected to the lifestyle center with convenient pedestrian walkways. The center is strategically located on Hwy 281 which is a main NAFTA thoroughfare from Mexico leading straight through to Edinburg. The Mcallen-Edinburg-Misison MSA ranked as the fourth fastest growing MSA in the U.S. during the last census and the fastest growing in Texas between 1990 and 2000. JCPenney announced their plans to join the Shoppes at Rio Grande Valley with a 104,000 square foot store. The project will consist of contemporary architectural forms incorporating the color, texture, and art of its nearby Mexican neighbors in unexpected ways. In addition, the center will feature lush landscaping, water features, and ample shade. The Shoppes at Rio Grande Valley is expected to open to the public in Fall 2008. Currently, JcPenney, Burlington Coat Factory, the Shoe DEPT, First National Bank,and Academy are under construction.
